About The Brewer

marketingphoto.jpg My passion for brewing has spanned more than 12 years. It all started with a friend’s Christmas gift… a homebrew kit. While helping my friend figure out what to do with his new toy, I fell in love with brewing. At the time (early 90’s) I worked in a corporate setting, which was not at all my type of gig. So, after work, several times a week, I began to volunteer at a brewpub in Barrington (suburb of Chicago)… washing kegs, cleaning, etc. Eventually, I worked myself up to PT employment. I then moved to Belize, and helped make wine for an American owned restaurant. I missed brewing beer so much, I decided it was time to give up my super relaxed island life-style, and get back to making beer.

I “scouted” places to live along the east coast, and knew that the Beaufort area of SC was IT. I contacted the closest brewpub (Hilton Head, SC) and asked if they needed help. Manager John Watts said he just started looking for a brewer. I said “give me a week, I’ll be there.” I packed a few items, and flew out of “paradise” never to return. From Hilton Head, I worked in a few other brewpubs in the southeast and in Hawaii. I’ve learned from what I believe are some of the best people in the industry, and I am thankful for their continued help.

In my spare time, I like to experiment with recipe formulation, Ride my road bike as much as possible, and enjoy time with my wife and friends.
