“The beer was good, the community was better…”

March 11th, 2008

“…It was a lot of fun. The beer was good, the
food was good, but the community was better.”~BBC Member Paul

How about this for some stats: 180 wings, 8 pounds of shrimp, and loads of salsa. That’s what BBC members enjoyed at the Social on Monday night. -Thanks Chef Dan and your hardworking crew. Paul said it better than I ever could- members got to know one another, and the Social was a success.
Josh gave the gang two special beers- served only for this event.  Dale’s Pale Ale and Terripin Imperial Stout. The Dale’s keg didn’t make it through the night, and the stout was running a fast second.
BBC Membership Cards were passed out- if you missed the event, please ask your beertender for your card next time you stop in. Thanks for coming out. Stay tuned for our next BBC event.

BE HEALTHY: Drink at Brewer’s!

BE HEALTHY: Drink at Brewer’s!
As if you need another reason to come have a fresh, Beaufort-made beer…
Hop-Heads you’ll love this news!

The best brews pack more than a heady buzz — they improve your health, too By Matt Allyn & Matt Bean, Men’s Health

Beer makes you feel good. You knew that. But you don’t realize just how good. Recent research has revealed bioactive compounds in beer that battle cancer, boost your metabolism, and more. And these benefits come on top of the oft-touted upsides of moderate alcohol intake: clot prevention, cleaner arteries, and reduced stress. Just in time for the summer, we set out with a stack of studies, a panel of parched testers, and a full fridge to find the best-tasting, healthiest brews available. Enjoy.  Hops help cut the sweetness in a beer, delivering a crisp citrus-and-pine kick to the back of your tongue. But the cone-shaped hops flower is more than just a flavor savior. Researchers have shown that it’s also a significant source of cholesterol-lowering, cancer-fighting, and virus-killing compounds called polyphenols. What’s more, “Just one 12-ounce beer a day decreased fibrinogen, a clotting factor, and increased albumin, which is very important for protein metabolism,” says Shela Gorinstein, Ph.D., a researcher at Jerusalem’s Hebrew University and the author of a 2007 study on the bioactivity of beer. In our taste test, the winner was a smooth, fruity India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed with 8 pounds of hops per barrel. It boasts 80 times the hops of a mass-market lager.

Keeping company with musicians,Tommy learned things in a short time he could never have learned on his own. When he heard Stevie Ray Vaughn for the first time,he didn’t dig it.After a few heartbreaks, he learned to love it.He took a trip through the past to find all of Stevie’s influences, and their influences, and so on down the line. Now the music he didn’t really dig has swallowed him whole!
One particular night on a stage in downtown Charleston,a very special singer/mentor to Tommy commented that he didn’t have a nickname.Always stomping his foot on that big ol’ stage, even when the band was trying to be quiet…Tommy Thundefoot was born!
Tommy has played from Charleston,SC to Santa Monica,California with frequent stops in Florida,Mississippi, and Texas. With a style and flavor all his own,and a touch like no other, you are sure to be excited and stunned when you witness Tommy in action. count on Laurel & Justin!

***uPDAtE!***
Kick the Keg on our upstairs patio was a great time- and you did it! Both kegs were kicked by evening time. I think the freshly made chips and incredible salsa (thanks Chef Dan- I swear the salsa is more delectable every time I have it!) helped the beer keep following! Thanks to all of you who turned out.
Those of you who are BBC (Brewer’s Beer Club members) are in for a mega treat at Monday’s social. We’ll have two beers that you won’t be able to get enough of (really, I swear they are awesome)– can’t leak what we’ll be serving, but trust me, as Tony would say “they’reeeeeee G-r-E-a-T!” (Ya, I’m dating myself- and that way cheesy) ~Alexia

Friday Firkin- BLOW OUT!!!

February 10th, 2008

Cask Night BLOW-OUT! This Friday was a firkin blow-out! In just hours, our cask of super hopped Brickyard IPA was polished off. I did not even get a taste! Since it was a Friday night, we were very busy, and I was running around… eventually I was able to ask Ben (one of our super beer-tenders… love the short hair cut!) for a taste. He said “that’s impossible… its tapped!” I quickly scanned the bar for someone I knew, who was drinking a cask beer, and spotted Steve (Pluffmud Hophead Homebrewers President)– I “demanded” a taste…! Yum. I think it was about 8:30pm or so- and this is a record!
Hope we’ll be seeing you next Friday at 5p.  PS. Rumor has it a Tuesday night Brewer’s Beer Club Cask Night may be in the works- stay tuned! ~Alexia
